Peggy's film selection for March 8, 2023 Media Group Zoom discussion is 2017's film "Elizabeth: The Golden Age".
Please note this meeting will be a one-time Wednesday rather than Monday due to the holiday.
Description:
Starting in 1585, this film covers the latter part of Elizabeth I's reign, as the Catholic Philip II of Spain, angered by English state piracy directed at Spanish ships, plots to take over Anglican England and enthrone his daughter Isabella as the sovereign. Meanwhile Elizabeth struggles with the issue of being childless and having no heir. Plots, counterplots, and intrigues abound. This is director Shekhar Kapur's sequel to his 1998 film Elizabeth. Although inspired by historical events, it was considered to be heavily fictionalized, which distressed some viewers, historians, and Catholics.
