Taking place during Carnaval in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, Black Orpheus is a retelling of the Greek Myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. The film popularized Brazilian culture and bossa nova and samba music world wide. It won both the 1959 Cannes Palme d'Or and the 1960 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
